Amazon’s Follow-Up Mode Enables Seamless Voice Commands

With Follow-Up Mode enabled, Alexa can keep listening for a few seconds after an initial interaction, allowing you to add extra commands without having to use the wake-word again. This makes for a more seamless experience when using your Alexa smart speaker.
After issuing a command to Alexa, the microphone will stay enabled for five seconds, during which time you can add additional requests without having to say “Alexa” again. For example, you could say “What’s the weather like today?” followed by “What’s the weather like in New York City?” without having to say the wake-word twice.
This feature can also be useful when controlling smart home devices. For example, you could say “Turn off the lights in the living room,” followed by “Set the temperature to 75 degrees” without having to use the wake-word in between.
Enabling Follow-up Mode
To enable Follow-Up Mode on your Alexa device, you’ll need to use the Alexa smartphone app. Start by opening the app and tapping “More” in the bottom bar. From there, select “Settings” and then “Device Settings.” Find your Alexa device on the list and tap the settings cog in the top corner. Finally, toggle the “Follow-Up Mode” switch to the “on” position. Once enabled, you’ll be able to issue multiple voice commands without having to repeatedly use the wake-word.
