Aqara has officially partnered with @home_assistant , joining the newly updated “Works with Home Assistant” program. Aqara, a popular brand known for its reliable Zigbee and Matter devices, is now part of our “Works with Home Assistant” program. Aqara is the first partner to join since the recent program update, which focuses on certifying specific devices to ensure the best possible experience for Home Assistant users. This partnership also marks the debut of our “Works via Matter with Home Assistant” badge, highlighting the seamless integration of Aqara products with our leading Matter support.
Matter: The Future of Smart Home Integration
Aqara has been at the forefront of adopting Matter, a new standard that’s transforming smart home connectivity. Matter allows for local control of devices by directly connecting them to Home Assistant, ensuring your smart home data remains private and secure. As a local IP-based protocol, Matter operates over your existing Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks, and it also supports Thread, a key feature of many Aqara devices.
With Matter, users can control devices across multiple ecosystems simultaneously. For instance, you could unlock an Aqara smart lock with a Home Assistant automation and lock it again using a voice command with Apple HomePod. This interoperability sets Matter apart from other smart home standards, providing users with unprecedented flexibility.
Certified Devices Now Available
Three Aqara devices have been certified under the “Works with Home Assistant” program:
- Motion and Light Sensor P2: A battery-powered motion and lux sensor that supports Matter over Thread.
- Door and Window Sensor P2: A battery-powered cover sensor with Matter over Thread support.
- Smart Lock U200: A battery-powered smart lock that also supports Matter over Thread.
Additionally, testing of the soon-to-be-released Smart Lock U300 is underway, which is anticipated to be added to the program in the near future.
Hub M3: Bridging Aqara Devices with Matter
Aqara’s Hub M3 has also been certified as a Matter Bridge, making it easier than ever to connect your existing Aqara-based smart home to Home Assistant using Matter. The Hub M3 can bridge your current Aqara Zigbee devices to Matter and serve as a Thread Border Router for Home Assistant.
Looking Ahead
For those with Aqara products not listed above, rest assured that they will continue to function as they always have with Home Assistant. The “Works with Home Assistant” program is designed to highlight devices that provide the optimal experience, backed by our thorough testing and Aqara’s commitment to ongoing support and community engagement.
Overall, the program is managed by the non-profit Open Home Foundation, which emphasises long-term support and local control. We encourage you to consider products from our “Works with Home Assistant” partners for your smart home needs, as they are designed to prioritise privacy, security, and seamless integration.
